Press Release / 31 August 2021

New Delhi: Popular Front of India Chairman has, in a statement, said that Sangh Parivar is trying to impose its divisive narrative on the people of the country as history.

Salam added that RSS has manufactured a divisive narrative about the past with little basis in truth and is now passing it as Indian history through official channels. Previously they distorted ancient Indian history by reducing it merely as a linear story of Hindu-Muslim conflicts. Now they are also interfering with the history of India’s freedom struggle. The decision to remove the names of 387 Mappila warriors from the 'Dictionary of Martyrs of India's Freedom Struggle', published jointly by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) is highly disturbing. This selective omission of Muslim contributions to India and the freedom struggle is part of the conspiracy to portray an historic picture of Muslims as villains.

Omission of Jawaharlal Nehru from the poster published by ICHR as part of its “Azaadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” celebration is another nefarious example of this fake history manufacturing. It’s no coincidence that while Nehru’s name was removed, Savarkar’s took that place, even though Savarkar was a traitor who betrayed the freedom struggle to get out of jail. Now we are made to watch the absurdity of Gandhi and Savarkar in a single poster as freedom fighters.

India’s history is that of diversity and peaceful coexistence of different sections. This country won its freedom when every section of this country set aside their differences fought shoulder to shoulder against colonial invaders. It is a well-known fact that while the true patriots were fighting the British with their sweat, blood and lives, Sangh Parivar leaders and ideologues were dissuading people from it and creating internal division among the people of this country. They are ashamed of this fact and sees truth as a big obstacle in their path. That is why now they are manufacturing fake history. If such a divisive narrative gets passed as history to the coming generations, it will be source of endless communal hostilities.

Popular Front calls upon secular forces in the country to reject the Sangh Parivar's attempt to impose the divisive narrative as history and expose it. Popular Front also demands to the central government to retain the names of Malabar Mappila warriors in the Dictionary of Martyrs of India's Freedom Struggle.
