KFD (Karnataka Forum for Dignity)

An uncompromising stance towards injustice and commitment to community development are  the bedrocks of the Karnataka Forum for Dignity, from its very inception.  Formed to forward the cause of the Muslims  and other deprived classes of the Deccan, the KFD has pioneered in demanding justice and rights in the state of Karnataka. Social empowerment of these marginalized classes has been an important agenda of the KFD. But unlike many other organizations, the KFD has alerted the people of Karnataka about the evil designs of  Sangh Parivar in destroying communal harmony and social integrity.

A most notable campaign of the KFD  was its anti-dowry drive. Families throughout Karnataka, literally in thousands, answered the call by the KFD to root out this social evil. They pledged their support by attending the rallies  that turned out massive in many places. Following suite were several programs educating people to get rid of unwanted marriage expenses and luxuries. Moreover, family counseling classes were arranged and dowry-free mass marriages were held.

Special emphasis has been given by the KFD  in empowering women – the backbone of any society. Various exhibitions, camps and classes were held as a part of this endeavor. Education also has found special emphasis with scholarships  given to promising poor students. Education and Career Guidance is being provided; classes in journalism, health awareness, human and legal rights remain a niche of the KFD in the community. The KFD has thus been striving for enlightening the society in general, and the Muslim community in particular.

It too has lent its hand in relief efforts, notably in Tamil Nadu after the Tsunami, and in Kashmir, after the deadly earthquakes. The KFD volunteers had joined hands with Action Aid International and the All India Milli Council to provide much needed succor to the earth quake victims of Kashmir.

In preventing a repeat Ayodhya in Karnataka, the KFD raised the alarm against the RSS communalizing issue of Baba Budangiri. The Human rights organization Karnataka Komu Sawhardika Vedikae too joined the KFD in opposing the Sangh Parivar’s evil intentions.

The KFD has been able to counter the designs of the Sangh Parivar  on the Dalits, Muslims, the Xians throughout the state, especially in coastal beltod  Dakshin Karnataka. It has submitted a petition to Satate Chief Minister along with hard evidence supporting its charges against the Sangh parivar.   “Vidhan Soudha Chalo”, a peoples’ march orchestrated by the KFD  awed the police and administration by its sheer size and most notably, unmatched discipline. This was truly historic as it was the strongest indication to the Sangh Parivar in Karnataka that the KFD would never  retreat in opposing their terrorizing tactics.

The remarks against the madrasas by the State Chief Minister Kumaraswamy drew the irk of the Muslim community and this was conveyed strongly by the KFD, resulting in the withdrawal of  his statement by the Chief Minister.

The KFD has also campaigned against imperialist aggressions. An anti-imperialism march was successfully organized in the context of US aggression on Iraq.

Also it was the Karnataka Forum for Dignity that got the chance to play host to history – the Empower India Conference. With the Grace of the Almighty, it was executed with near perfection, once again discipline and mass participation being the benchmarks, thus earmarking a new, and most likely, the brightest chapter in the history of the downtrodden and subjugated of  Independent India.
