Banglore: The Karnataka chapter of Popular Front of India held a felicitation program for Bangalore Muslim Corporators who won recently held elections for Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). At the program with the theme "Empower the Community, Empower the Nation", the Corporators expressed their desire to work for development.
The felicitation program was held at Hotel A.J. International, Bangalore on May 7.
The elections for 198-seat Bangalore municipal corporation were held on March 28. The results were announced on April 5.
There are 13 Muslim Corporators in BBMP. Among successful Muslim candidates 9 are from Congress and 1 each from BJP and JDS. The Social Democratic Party of India, the political front of Popular Front of India, had fielded 10 candidates and won the contest in a ward.
What is more important is that out of 13 Muslim Corporators 8 are women.
The ruling BJP swept the local body election with winning on 111 seats. Congress was at No. 2 with 65 seats.
