Popular Front of India which is a nationwide social movement striving for total empowerment of the marginalised sections has announced the Educational Project for the current year and appealed people’s contribution for its fulfillment, a step in building a bright future. General Secretary of the organisation M Mohammed Ali Jinnah stated that the highlights of the Educational Project which Popular Front has been implementing since last one decade are the unique campaign called School Chalo, Sarva Shiksha Gram and Scholarship schemes.
Muhammed Ali Jinnah told that Popular Front members and associates across the nation could accomplish these tasks in 16 states with local manpower support and generous public donations.
During the period of five years from 2012 to 2016, an amount of Rs. 107,634,568 (10.76 crore) was spent as part of School Chalo activities which involved educational awareness classes for pupils and their parents, village level educational surveys, school admission support, re-admission of school drop outs and distribution of school kits. During this period school kits were distributed to a total number of 3, 31,587 (3.31 lakh) school children.
Sarva Shiksha Gram (SSG) is a consistent follow up scheme of the School Chalo campaign in selected villages. The aim of the scheme is to convert a backward village to 100 per cent educated village without drop outs till high school pass. At present the scheme is being run in few villages in Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.
Popular Front is giving scholarships to poor meritorious students above +2 levels. During the period of five years from 2012 to 2016, an amount of Rs. 37,162,757 (3.71 crore) was disbursed towards scholarships. While selecting beneficiaries, special attention is given to students of streams like law, journalism, social work etc. and also to children of Masjid imams. During last 5 years 6056 students have got the benefit of this scholarship scheme.
Popular Front General Secretary said that School Chalo campaign of the year 2017 will be in three phases of two months duration from February to July covering different states according to the school admission period in concerned states. Applications for new scholarships during the academic year 2017-18 will be announced soon. Mohammed Ali Jinnah also stated that from this year onwards, fund collection for all educational schemes will be operated as a consolidated single Popular Front Edu-care Fund.
