The Babri Masjid was demolished by the Hindutuva goons on December 6, 1992 in broad daylight. Along with that, the secular values of our nation were also demolished. The various court directions given in this issue were ignored by the Hindutuva fundamentalists. The then State and Central Governments remained just mute spectators while the demolition was going on.
The Liberhan Commission, which carried on its investigation for nearly 18 long years submitted its report to the Government. But still now, no action has been taken on this report. The assurance given by the then Congress Government that the masjid will be rebuilt in the same site, still remain. Its ironical that the culprits who were involved in the Babri Masjid demolition are today given ministerial posts.
Popular Front of India conducted protest demonstrations on December 6 demanding the rebuilding of the masjid in the same site and the arrest of the criminals involved in the demolition. In Chennai, the protest was led by State President A.S. Ismail. State Vice president Mohamed Shaik Ansari, SDPI state president Shaik Mohamed Dehlan Baqavi and others participated in the protest.
In Tirunelveli, the protest was led by National Secretary Mohamed Ali Jinnah. Sp. Udayakumar, Convenor, Peoples’ Movement Against Nuclear Energy also participated in the protest. Advocate Mohamed Yousuf, National Executive Council Member led the protest at Nellai West. In other districts, the protest was led by the State Executive Council members and District Presidents. Thousands of people participated in the protest held all over the State and registered their desire to safeguard the secular and democratic values of the nation.
