Withdraw cattle trade restrictions: Popular Front

A statement issued by the National Secretariat meeting of Popular Front of India has demanded complete and immediate withdrawal of the restrictions on cattle trade imposed by the central government. It is an outright anti-people and anti-democratic step which will unilaterally destroy the livelihood of millions of poor people but also further stunt national economy which is already affected by disastrous demonetization. The explanation that there is no ban on cattle trade is just a ploy of to appease people of some Northeastern and Southern states which are reluctant to execute beef ban.

“The ban on sale of cows for slaughter and the new restrictions imposed on cattle trade by the central government will trigger new waves of Hindutva violence against Muslims and Dalits across the country”, Abdul Wahid Sait, Secretary, Popular Front of India warned in a statement issued here today following the amendments to the existing rules governing Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The move is yet another attack by the Narendra Modi government on people’s freedom to eat what they like.

Media under control of commercial interests: Anil Chamadia

“Since the major media houses in India are under control of commercial interests, we cannot expect them playing a positive role in current political situation.” This view was elaborated by Mr. Anil Chamadia who is a renowned columnist and media activist. He was delivering the Popular Lecture of the month, held at Popular Front of India headquarters in New Delhi. Bilkis Bano case warrants more stringent punishment: Popular Front

The statement issued by Popular Front of India Headquarters after the meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) welcomed the verdict of the Bombay High Court upholding life imprisonment of eleven persons convicted for gang-raping of pregnant Bilkis Bano and massacring her 14 family members in the 2002 Gujarat Genocide. It is further positive that the High Court has convicted the polices officers whom the trial court had acquitted. The meeting observed that the gravity of the incident warranted more stringent punishment to all those involved in the heinous crime.

Honorable President’s intervention needed in the Justice Karnan vs Judiciary tussle: Popular Front

The Chairman of Popular Front of India, E Abubacker has called upon the Honorable President
of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee to intervene in the ugly tussle going on between the Justice C S
Karnan and the Judiciary. The developments in the case has turned to be unfortunate and will
only hamper the image of the Indian Judiciary. The current orders by the Supreme Court bench
for conducting mental test of a High Court judge has worsen the situation and only lowered the
standards of the Judiciary.
