Custody murder at Ramanathapuram:PFI provides legal aid

An innocent youth was killed by the police personnel at S.P.Pattinam at Ramanathapuram during custody on October 14. Reports say that a local youth named Syed Mohamed (aged 23) was taken for enquiry by the local police over a petty issue. The youth was tortured and severely assaulted by the police in the police station. The innocent youth had died as a result of this assault.

SDPI condemns the speech of BJP MP

Tamilnadu State president of SDPI KKSM Dehlan Baqavi strongly condemned the continuous venomous speech by the BJP leaders that create a wedge among the communities. BJP MP Yogi Adityanath recently said that the Muslim women should be forcibly converted to Hinduism and also stated that the communal riots happen only in Muslim dominated areas.

Chennai: NCHRO demands the release of convicts who have spent ten years

National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) has demanded the release of convicts who have spent ten years behind the bars. A protest demonstration was held at Chennai on September 13 to press the demand. The Tamil Nadu State Government normally releases prisoners every year on September 15 on account of the birthday of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai. But in the past few years, the Muslim prisoners’ names did not find a place in the list of released convicts.

Dalit students wrist cut off for wearing watch.

Madurai, Sep 5: A 16-year-old dalit boy was allegedly attacked and his wrists slashed by his non-dalit seniors in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district on Wednesday night because he wore a wrist watch to school.
Police said P Ramesh, a plus one student of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Thiruthangal village, was confronted by his seniors when he wore the watch to school on Monday. They forcibly removed it from his wrist and threw it away. The boy fought with his seniors over the issue, and tension prevailed on the school premises.
